Renewable Energy Pioneer Establishes Headquarters in Del Mar

Del Mar, CA – Cannon Power Group, an international leader in utility-scale wind and solar development, announced today the opening of its new central office in Del Mar, California.

“We are thrilled to be back officially in the Del Mar area,” said Gary Hardke, president and managing director of Cannon Power Group.  “We have operated offices all over the world but San Diego North County is where Cannon Power Group was founded and is now the base from which we’ll continue to grow and prosper in the future.”

About 15 years ago the company was based in Del Mar in the building adjacent to its new offices.  But in 1998 Cannon moved its development activities to Europe and established a main office in Madrid, Spain with branch offices in several other locations in Europe.  In 2002 Cannon’s business brought them to Palm Springs and the western United States where they were organized primarily in regional development offices.

“San Diego is especially ideal due to its proximity to one of our biggest project areas – Baja California, Mexico – as well as to the southwestern United States markets,” Hardke continued.  “There’s enormous potential opment.  We also expect to see major solar development to emerge in the southwestern United States. This could significantly contribute to California’s renewable energy goals.”

Cannon has two wind projects totaling 340 megawatts currently in construction – its Windy Point and Windy Flats projects in Goldendale, Washington. Both projects are expected to sell their power back into California. In addition to Windy Point/Windy Flats, Cannon’s other current projects include the Aubanel wind and solar project in Baja California, Mexico and the Lucerne Valley solar project in San Bernardino County, among others.

While the Del Mar area office will oversee all of Cannon Power Group’s projects, the company will continue to use additional satellite offices including San Luis Obispo, California; Portland, Oregon; Goldendale, Washington; Tijuana, Mexico; and Croatia.

Cannon’s new office is located at 12555 High Bluff Drive, Suite 385, San Diego, California 92130. A ten-person staff will be based there.

For over 26 years, San Diego-based Cannon Power Group has developed, constructed, operated, and maintained more than 30 utility-scale wind energy projects in the U.S., India, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Greece and Croatia.  In 2007, Cannon established its solar project division, Cannon Solar Partners, LLC.
